John Ripard & Son Ltd was established in Malta in 1901 acting as general passenger and cargo agent for Prince Line Ltd, whose activity in those early days, was of a conventional and passenger service from the United Kingdom to the Mediterranean and other British Colonies worldwide. John Ripard Sr, our current chairman, is the grandson of the original John Ripard who established the business over 100 years ago.

During the 20th century we evolved as one of Malta's leading ship agents and in the mid 1970's, as agents for Manchester Liners, we were the first ship agent in Malta to introduce containerisation, a unique market position we retained for several years. Furness Withy as owners of both Prince Line and Manchester Liners continued to be a leading carrier of containerised traffic to Malta and this strengthened John Ripard & Son Ltd's leading marketing presence on the island.
